Doctor Blading Overview
Doctor blading (also known as knife coating or blade coating) is a popular thin-film fabrication technique which involves either running a blade over the substrate or moving a substrate underneath the blade. There is a small gap that determines how much solution can get through. Here, the solution is effectively spread over the substrate.
The final thickness is a fraction of the gap between the substrate and the blade. The final thickness of the wet film will be influenced by the viscoelastic properties of the solution and the speed of coating.
Features of doctor blade/knife coating machine
1.Roll-to-roll coating machines are mainly used for coating liquid or colloidal films in laboratories.
2. The equipment uses a continuously variable speed motor to precisely control the coating speed to achieve the purpose of
advancing the scraper at a uniform speed for coating.
3. The blade is made of stainless steel and has a constant weight to improve the consistency and uniformity of the coating film.
4. The equipment uses a bottom vacuum to absorb the sample and has a bottom heating function. The heating temperature can
reach up to 120°C. It also realizes the function of baking the film during the coating process, so that the film can be quickly dried.
5. At the same time, the equipment is equipped with a rewinding and unwinding device, which can be used for continuous coating
of copper foil or aluminum foil. The upper cover is equipped with an ultraviolet curing lamp, which can be used for curing and
drying the film layer.
6. This equipment is ideal for the continuous production of battery electrode materials.
